Elevating Awareness

My Mission
My mission is to change the world one person at a time. I train and supervise graduate students to provide multiculturally competent mental health and rehabilitation counseling services so that their clients can meet their goals.
Extraordinary Experiences
Raised as a dependent in the military service, I developed as a child living in several countries and a smattering of US states. I was enculturated by my parents to positively embrace the variety of peoples, languages, and cultures we lived within.
As an adult, I encountered the marginalization faced by those in the Deaf culture who use American Sign Language. Encouraged by my mentors, I worked diligently to hone my skills to become a nationally certified interpreter, interpreter educator, and mentor. I have been blessed to work with Deaf and Hearing professionals who served in positions of influence in state government, state legislative activities, and vocational rehabilitation counseling.
These connections have assisted me in making meaning of my role as a Counselor Educator. I aim to infuse the same cultural humility and reflective posture that has been modeled for me throughout my research, education and supervision. I am passionate about continuing this journey of extraordinary experiences in the research I conduct, the students I teach and the clients I accompany on their journey to reach their goals.
My Core Values
- I believe that each person is striving to achieve their best self. Each one of us makes the best decisions we can with the information we currently have.
- I believe that no one plans to have an addiction.
- I believe that people are stronger than we give them credit for.
